Rainey Endowed School

Rainey Endowed - a brief overview.

The origin of Rainey Endowed School, in Magherafelt, lies in a gift left in the will of Hugh Rainey in 1707. He left his estate to trustees for “for the purpose of having a suitable school-house built in Magherafelt’. The school was established in 1713 and is still on the original site. Originally started for boys the school population has grown over the years and now stands at around 700 male and female pupils. The school accepts 112 pupils into year 8 and demand for places in year 8 has, in recent years, out-stripped the number of places that are available.

Rainey Endowed School uses the new SEAG Single Entrance Transfer Test results as part of its intake criteria into year 8.
