Dalriada School was founded in 1878 and originally it was known as “Ballymoney Intermediate School.” It was founded to provide a “good academic education for pupils between elementary education and university”. The school was ahead of its time in that it was co-educational from its inception. The school opened in the Town Hall and then moved to the new technical school in Charles Street, Ballymoney. In 1924 the school changed its name to Ballymoney High School and in 1937 it moved to its present site. From its early days the school has grown in size and now has almost 900 pupils.
