Methodist College Belfast (Methody)

Methodist College Belfast (Methody) - a brief overview.

Methodist College Belfast (or MCB as it is often known) was opened in 1868 having been founded by the Methodist Church in Ireland. In 1865 there were about 23,000 Methodists in Ireland out of a population of about 6 million. The school was built on, what was then the,  outskirts of Belfast and was partly to train Methodist ministers and partly to educate boys. From very early in its formation the school also accepted girls and when the school opened it had just 141 pupils – today it has approaching 2000 pupils. MCB as it is often known has two preparatory schools attached to it called Fullerton House and Downey House. The school celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2018.

Places in year 8 are always in high demand and Methodist College (MCB) uses the AQE Transfer Test results as part of its selection and intake process for entry into year 8.
