Glenlola Collegiate

Glenloa Collegiate - a brief overview.

Glenlola Collegiate School is an all-girls' grammar school situate in the town of Bangor. Founded as a school for girls in approximately 1880, when Bangor had a population of around 3000, the school was known as “the Ladies Collegiate School”. In 1919 it was renamed “Bangor Collegiate School” and had over 80 private pupils. Meanwhile a school known as “Glenlola” was opened in 1897 by the Harte Family. Both schools had only a small number of pupils and struggled financially and it was only in the 1950s that the schools considered amalgamating. Eventually in 1957 “Glenlola Collegiate” was established. The school population of girls and staff now exceeds 1200 and in 2003 a new build opened that was able to accommodate all pupils on the one site.
