Friends School Lisburn
Friends School, Lisburn
Friends' School.Lisburn was founded by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1774. It is a co-educational, non denominational Voluntary Grammar School. Friends' School is one of many Quaker schools across the world and these schools have a distinctive ethos which is based on care for the individual. John Hancock, a prosperous linen merchant, left £1,000 for the purchase of land “in or near Lisburn” on which to build a school for the children of Quakers and so in 1764 the school was formed. The school accepts non-Quakers as well as Quakers. The school was listed as the Northern Ireland Secondary School of the year in 2017 by the Sunday Times.
Demand for year 8 places in the Lisburn area is always high and Friends’ School use the AQE Transfer Test results as part of its intake process.
